Maria - You Amongst Women

Celebrating a mother and her sacrifices, VK Arts presents MARIA - You amongst women. First of its kind here in Singapore, MARIA is a Bharathanatyam dance feature that entails the life of Mother Mary, a biblical character.

Beyond just biblical interpretations and narratives, Maria will engage you with compelling emotions, evocative music and a riveting choreography that explores the endless possibilities of Bharatanatyam.

Once again, VK Arts brings you a production that has been choreographed, composed and dealt with by great finesse, and brought alive by committed dancers and musicians.

Cellography 2018

For one evening only, Cellography brings you a selection of your favourite tunes, from the grand harmonies of movie soundtracks from La La Land, The Godfather and Pirates of the Caribbean, to the toe-tapping beats of Louis Fonsi’s Despacito, Magic!’s Rude and Camila Cabello’s Havana.

Helmed by Hughes, Singapore’s only cello orchestra has grown since its first concert in 2014. The age range of its members has also widened, with the youngest cellist in this fourth installment being only seven years old. But age, experience and profession are never a barrier in Cellography, where everyone is welcomed to bask in the joy of playing the cello.

Come listen to “Our Music, Our Stories”. Cellography is an all-inclusive group out to show that the cello is more than just a bass support instrument and that everyone can join in the fun. The rich sound of the cello, coupled with the great acoustics of the theatre, promises you an evening of enjoyable music to relax to.

Flora and Ulysses

Can a little squirrel change the human heart? Join Flora & Ulyses to find out.

After getting sucked up by a Ulysses 2000x vacuum cleaner, an unassuming squirrel is given new life by 10-year old Flora Belle Buckman, a self-proclaimed cynic who is struggling to accept her difficult family situation. She names the squirrel Ulysses and discovers that he has gained superhero powers! No longer an average squirrel, the mighty Ulysses can now understand Flora, fly through the air, and even write poetry... A friendship is born between the unlikely pair, and together they embark on a heart-filled journey full of quirky characters, giant donuts, a killer cat and the ever-expanding universe. This endearing saga about the possibilities of hope, and the promises of a capacious heart, proves that the world is indeed more beautiful when you believe a squirrel can type poetry.

Flora & Ulysses is the phenomenal show based on the Newbery Medal award-winning book by Kate DiCamillo, the #1 New York Times best-selling author of The Tale of Desperaux, and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

Esta Noche 2018: Fools Who Dream

Sachin Prabhu once said: "Great success requires greater sacrifice.”

True enough, on a man’s way to his dreams, he needs to constantly negotiate between holding back and letting go of things that matter, and things that matter less. The dilemma is: What is worth sacrificing one’s life for, and what is not?

This year, Esta Noche returns to tackle this question and redefine the concept of dreams and success. Interweaving the lives of three couples and the pursuit of their dreams, Esta Noche 2018 will reflect the up-hill battle of Vietnamese dreamers, as well as the sacrifices they make to actualise their dreams.

Just Desserts

“JUST DESSERTS” is a combination of four different stories which were adapted from various musicals including “SOMETHING ROTTEN!”, “13 THE MUSICAL”, “IN THE HEIGHTS”, “21 CHUMP STREET”, “THE LAST FIVE YEARS and “NEXT THING YOU KNOW”.

The story surrounds a common theme of desires whereby the character undergoes a journey to fulfil their goals & dreams. Sacrifices were made to fulfil their longing to achieve the desired outcome.

It teaches us an important message of how we can easily lose sight of what’s important to us by not realizing the value of the item until it’s gone.

Glam

GLAM, set in the current era, tells the story of a girl named Sofi and her journey in discovering the road to success. The main idea for the musical is to integrate the history of Kampong Gelam into the story of Sofi who is in search of fame and GLAMour. In search of GLAMour, she chanced upon the rich history and mystery of Kampong Gelam.

Each character and sub-theme are deliberately created to generate a parallel dimension of the past and present. It highlights ongoing ethical issues in the journey to success and the importance of learning from the past.
