Gateway Theatre is turning 1!
Gateway Theatre is turning 1 year old! Gateway Theatre celebrates its first birthday with a fun and colourful birthday party!
There will be a Carnival in the Sky Garden featuring food, interactive games, prizes, arts and crafts.
In the Black Box theatre, there will be a kids show that features a giant balloon and giant puppets! The show opens with our friend Jon Danger, a magician who will show-off his incredible giant balloon trick. This is followed by the intriguing and revealing story of The Spineless Jellyfish and Cunning Monkey. A story adapted from a Japanese folk tale by Samantha Scott-Blackhall and performed by Actress Amy Cheng. After this the Diploma students from Lasalle College of the Arts, alongside their director Bright Ong, will perform their interpretation of The Spineless Jellyfish and Cunning monkey story using giant puppets. It’s going to be quite a spectacle!
The Spineless Jelly Fish
And Cunning Monkey
THE STORY
This is a story based on an old Japanese folktale. It takes place a very long time ago in the centre of the ocean. It is about a brave jellyfish sent to dry land to bring back a monkey's heart for the mighty Dragon King! Why does the Dragon King need a monkey's heart? And how can a jellyfish leave the ocean to walk on land?!
This tale reveals why jellyfish to this day are spineless, and why monkeys are so cunning.
